Podiatry & Chiropody Clinic in Tonbridge
Your podiatrist, also known as a chiropodist, will help to prevent and remove pain, discomfort or deformities in your lower limbs. Pain, discomfort or deformities in the feet often arise as a result of complications from other systemic problems in the body, for example, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, diabetes, peripheral arterial disease, stroke or multiple sclerosis, or muscular dystrophy. Or, pain and discomfort in the feet can arise from poor foot function, biomechanical and postural issues, weakened or under-utilised muscles or unsuitable footwear (e.g. steel toe capped boots).
We take into consideration the mechanical function of the lower limb, knee and hip and the way in which your feet contact the ground and how your daily activity levels, normal footwear, posture, pelvic placement and muscle tone may contribute to your sore feet. We also offer a diabetic foot service and regularly check for neurological and vascular changes to health. We also prescribe and manufacture shoe orthotics along with shoe advice.
What to expect
Firstly, you will be asked to complete a form providing details of your medical history. After this, the podiatrist will do a number of non-evasive and pain-free tests to check your vascular and neurological health. Visual observations will be made on how you walk and what range of motion you have on certain foot joints, weight bearing and non-weight bearing.
We will be looking for indicators on your feet and also your shoes to paint a full picture of your lower limb health. We will then suggest a working diagnosis and a care plan for you, which may be treated on the spot or it may involve the production of an orthotic (insole), regular visits or a follow up appointment. We can also provide an onward referral to radiography (x-ray), an orthopaedic or podiatric surgeon or a follow-up letter to your GP.
