How can Pregnancy treatments help?

When trying for a baby, many couples want to be proactive, with a plan of action for a healthy pregnancy. Our team's holistic approach to conception and pregnancy considers lifestyle, diet, sleep and stress factors, as well as addressing physical and practical factors.

Treatment overview

Antenantal massage

Antenatal or prenatal massage has many benefits. Studies have shown that massage therapy performed during pregnancy has positive effects both physiologically and psychologically. Massage during pregnancy can relieve muscle aches and joint pains, improve circulation, reduce swelling (oedema) improve labour outcomes and also new-born health.

It also helps to reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression and help to prepare the expectant mother for the birth of her baby. It is advised to wait until you are 12 weeks pregnant before arranging your first antenatal massage and check with your midwife and doctors that you don’t have any contraindications to massage therapy.

Postnantal massage

Postnatal massage can be as important and beneficial as massage during pregnancy, as with antenatal massage, it will help with relaxation, stress reduction, pain relief as well as hormone regulation, reduction of swelling and also help to improve and promote a higher quality of sleep. Has also been shown to improve breastfeeding.

All our practitioners have completed specialist qualifications in antenatal and postnatal massage and are happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

Psychological therapy during pre and postnatal period

At The Mind Body Clinic we have a psychotherapists who specialise in working with women, their partners and family during pregnancy and after their baby is born, who are experiencing emotional distress, difficultly adjusting to their new role as a parent or mental health difficulties.

It is estimated that up to one in five women and one in ten men are affected by mental health problems during pregnancy and the year after the birth of their baby. For some people having a baby can exacerbate existing or previous mental health difficulties, and for others they find themselves experiencing mental health difficulties for the first time in their life. The process of preparing to become a parent can also bring up painful memories and experiences from your own childhood, which can lead to emotional difficulties.

Acupuncture

Many conditions which routinely come up during pregnancy would benefit from a natural solution. We offer acupuncture with a trained practitioner, registered with BAcC.

Acupuncture can provide relief for a range of pregnancy-related conditions, including morning sickness, high/low blood pressure, anxiety, tiredness and back ache.

Acupuncture can be used to help to induce labour in overdue pregnancies and after birth can be used by new mothers to increase energy levels, to promote healing and to combat the after birth experience. It also is very helpful in treating mastitis.
Acupuncture is very safe to have during pregnancy and is an effective option at a time when many women choose to avoid taking medicine for minor ailments.
