I began my Yoga journey during my years training as an actress at Drama school. Relaxation of the mind and body was a huge part of the training and became a necessary tool for me to deal with anxiety, uncertainty and the highs and lows of the performing industry. After graduation, I developed a special interest in Yogic discipline because, first and foremost, it gave me an outlet of expression and an avenue of self practice.
It is now my understanding that Yoga is a way to step outside of the suffering we have created in our lives, and commit to knowing and understanding our true nature as human beings. Yoga therefore is more than a stretching routine, it is a study of anthropology, psychology and philosophy that can lead to personal fulfillment and overall wellbeing through transformation of the self.
In 2017 I studied for my RYT 200 hour certification in India at the Himalaya Yoga Valley under Yogacharya Lalit Kumar, connecting me to the lineage of Sri K Pattabhi Jois, BKS Iyengar and Swami Rama.Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic yoga method created by Sri K Pattab hi Jois in Mysore in the mid 20th Century. In my classes we work through the Ashtanga series starting with sun salutations before moving into the standing and seated postures and finishing sequence. It is my aim to always honour the traditional teachings of Yoga, and so my classes have a strong foundation in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the Eight Limbs of Yoga, including breathing exercises and meditation.
