Movement Psychotherapy – Adults
Movement Psychotherapy provides a creative and holistic approach to therapy. It is a relational process between client and therapist which combines verbal self-expression with embodied awareness and creative movement. This form of psychotherapy recognises that the mind and body are innately related. This mind-body continuum suggests that working together with cognitive and bodily processes can affect the whole functioning of an individual whilst enabling clients to experiment with new ways of being.
Sessions are client centred and non-directive, meaning that their structure as well as content will respond to individual needs. No previous movement or bodywork experience is required and all physical conditions will be taken seriously – You are invited to come as you are.
I am an experienced Movement Psychotherapist and a registered professional member of the national accrediting body; Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy (ADMP UK). I have worked with diverse client groups including adults, adolescents and children in a variety of settings such as psychiatric services, NHS, educational and charity sector. My aim as a practitioner is to create a safe, welcoming and sensitive therapeutic environment in which each individual is accompanied through their journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
Movement Psychotherapy – Children
Movement is the most primary form of human communication. Children communicate through body language, movement and voice. They use play as a tool to express complex thoughts and feelings as well as to make sense of their experiences. By using creative movement and play, sessions can assist children with psychomotor development, sensory integration, cognition and emotional regulation.
I have experience of working with children who have learning difficulties with associated social and communication needs.
Movement Psychotherapy – Adolescents
Adolescence is a time of change. It can be complicated and confusing with many external pressures all of which can impact on an individual’s sense of self and body.
Using a creative embodied approach to therapy can support young adults to make sense of their internal world: their thoughts, feelings and experiences. It can promote a sense of wellbeing, increase confidence and self-esteem through the opportunity to move, create, express and reflect.
What happens next?
Please contact The Mind Body Clinic to book an initial appointment. This will give us the opportunity to meet in person, allowing you to decide if you feel comfortable working together. During this first meeting we will discuss what brings you to personal therapy and what your aims, hopes and areas of focus for sessions might be.
Typically sessions are offered on a weekly basis and these will last 50 minutes. The therapy can be short or long term depending on personal circumstances; practicalities will be discussed at the first appointment.
