Yoga at The Mind Body Clinic
The Mind Body Clinic offers yoga classes that are special. Firstly, our teachers have been carefully selected for both their dedication to their craft and most importantly their ability to teach. Our classes are held for a maximum of 6 people, which means everyone gets personal tuition during the class.
Small classes also allow us to accommodate a range of abilities from beginners through to advanced levels. Not only will our classes improve flexibility, strength and fitness (both physical and mental) but also, where appropriate, can be used to address specific ailments and conditions resulting from injuries and wear and tear. Pilates and yoga can compliment each other well, so do take a look at our Pilates schedule. We also offer one to one classes, please enquire using the contact form below.
How yoga can help
There is growing evidence around the world showing the health benefits of yoga. The physical benefits include increased flexibility, muscle strength and tone, improved respiration, energy metabolism and vitality, weight loss, improved cardio and circulatory health, improved athletic performance and protection from injury. According to the NHS, there’s also growing evidence that a regular yoga practice improves high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress. See the full recommendation here.
Hatha in its original form is a term used to describe all styles of yoga such as Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Vinyasa Flow. In the West, it has come to describe a less dynamic style of yoga that is suitable for complete beginners, as well as the seasoned yogi. Hatha translates as Ha meaning ‘sun’ and Tha meaning ‘moon’ and relates to the masculine/feminine; active/ passive elements in all of us with the aim of creating balance within us between the two. This is still a powerful style of yoga, with a slower flow through the asanas (poses), the emphasis being on alignment and breathing into the poses thus bringing awareness to the body and breath.
- Basic Asanas (Yoga poses): Detailed breakdown of seated, lying, kneeling and standing postures
- Step by step guide to Sun Salutation
- Basic principles of the breath (pranayama) and breathing exercises
- Important Alignment details to avoid a false or weightbearing posture
- Appropriate use of props ( bolser, blocks, straps, blankets etc.)
- Individual assistance, supports and adjustments according to your needs and bodyGuided relaxation and meditation exercises
A class open to all levels, consisting of traditional yoga postures designed to build strength, flexibility, fitness and focus. Improve posture, stretch out tight muscles and release tension. Our aim is to unite breathe, body and concentration in a steady flow, letting go of the day and finding a deeper connection within.
Relax and restore with a series of slow flows, deep stretches, good music and aromatherapy. Restorative yoga is centred by your breath, working with slow and gentle movements that allow you to melt into a deep meditative state.
Ashtanga yoga is a system of yoga developed for the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.
A sequence of gentle, meditative yoga postures to help you de-stress, slow down, ground yourself and restore energy.
There is a focus on staying in the present moment to calm the mind and let go of any anxieties and worries. This is a class for the over-worked and over-stretched, who want space to breathe deeply, let stress go and regain a sense of balance and ease in their life. Suitable for all.
Mindfulness is about paying more attention to the present moment, to your thoughts and feelings, and the world around you. As we start to be more connected with the world around us and how we react to it, we start to feel more in control and have more choice in the decisions we make and how we respond to challenges in life. Mindfulness practice is like training for the mental muscle, and over time, with sustained practice you will start to turn down your stress response and create new pathways in your brain and notice changes in anxiety levels, quality of sleep and relationships with yourself and others.
Yoga Therapy adapts the practice of yoga for people with physical and mental health challenges, prescribing specific routines of postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques.
Yoga Therapy empowers each individual to progress holistically towards improved health and wellbeing with the use of a variety of different yoga techniques and practices.
